Consciousness and The Waters of Life

Life as we know it depends on water~~~It's Essential~~~and the paths that it follows on the surface of our planet~~~mirror those of a spiritual pilgrimage of consciousness. These days science says that 1/3 of Earth's water came from comets that slammed into us during The Early Bombardment Period. So water came from somewhere else and changes form as it meanders across the face of the earth~~~sounds like a pilgrimage to me.
Water evaporates and loses it's form from the touch of the sun. Clouds fill the air and cast their shadows until they give it up and release their heavy burden. Rain falls upon the ground and follows it's many paths~~~as water trickles to stream~~~flows to river~~and roars into the ocean. Water is always seeking to return to it's source and the path that it takes even changes the face of the earth~~~a very spiritual process~~~indeed.
Spiritual as well as physical waters are needed to maintain our conscious life~~~and if you read any of my other posts~~~they all pay homage to fellow pilgrims who gave me a drink along the way~~~and they~~~in a very real way~~~helped maintain my spiritual life.
One of the best tributes that I can give any author is the story of what happened to me one day during the summer of 1980. I was leaving Las Vegas and about to sit down for breakfast at The Sands when I spotted a book on one of those old school turn around paperback book stands that used to be perched by the old time cash register. My eyes were drawn to one particular book and as I had heard of the author and wanted to give him a try I bought it on the spot. No newspaper~~~a book to read~~~while eating breakfast. By the time I had finished my last cup of coffee I was on page 20 and laughing so hard that I was crying. I tried not to laugh out loud~~~but that was as impossible as quitting reading~~~the damn book. I apologized to my waitress and assured her that I wasn't crazy as I wiped my eyes and paid my bill~~~but by the look on her face she really wasn't going to buy anything that I said~~~she'd seen many crazies in Vegas and I was just another one. Well? That's the first time I ever read anything written by Hunter S. Thompson~~~and the book I had picked up? Or had it picked me? Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.
Words were a better description of where I was~~~what I saw~~~what I had experienced~~~than the reality itself. That's not supposed to happen~~~but so it goes with the spiritual waters of life. Las Vegas~~~really is~~~The Savage Heart of The American Dream.
